Project Info

Because this was a listed building it gave us some challenges as well as plenty of opportunities. We created a new grand critall glazed entrance for Smokin’ and brought in a specialist stonemason to form the wide stone entrance steps as well as commissioning a local Leeds-based comic artist to create some giant floor-to-ceiling murals with a Native American influence.

A mix of tactile finishes were carefully chosen to reflect the varied landscape of West America with rich dark woods against exposed concrete columns with metal wall lights. The bespoke patina corten steel bar front was the perfect contrast to the gloss marble tiled floor area creating a real focal point in the room. Arid desert greenery was weaved through the tall gabion mesh cages and even the loos were given an Old West touch, using galvanised buckets and old reclaimed oil drum sinks as well as light installations in each of the cubicles.
