Project Info

Following the recent acquisition of the property by Greene King for addition to the Chef + Brewer Collection, the brief was for the full renovation and extension of the trade area and conversion of the upper floors into lettable ensuite bedrooms. Dating back to 1830, the Tudor Gothic style building is Grade II listed and is bound on two edges by roads, one by the Bristol Channel and the fourth by a protected woodland with many Tree Preservation Orders.

With assistance from Planning and Heritage Consultants and careful negotiation with the Local Planning Authority, full planning and listed building consent was obtained for converting the upper floors into ensuite bedrooms, an extension to the trade area and a new staff room extension. Externally consent was granted for a new raised terrace, decked area, and bar to the lower beer garden area. Due to the significance of the property, careful consideration had to be given to the design and detailing of the trade area extension, and in particular its junction with the host building.
